Aims Of The Course

This Advanced Digital Photography Course will bring all partipicants to a very high level of understanding of the various modes on the camera and when best to use them. At the end of the course you will be able to take full control of your camera and seriously enhance your shots in Photoshop/ Elements.

About The Course

The course is made up of eight separate modules. The photography side of things aims to show you techniques such as what are the best buttons to get or correct a specific effect while also teaching you the fundamentals of photography.

Course Requirements

Who is this course suited for?
Students taking this course will have been taking photographs with a digital SLR for at least 18 months and now want to get deep under the bonnet of the Camera and of either Photoshop Elements or Photoshop. They also want to understand what the three key modes (Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual) are best used for and when to use them.

Recommended Equipment

A Digital Camera with Aperture Priority (Av on Canons, A on other cameras). Suitable cameras would include Digital SLRs or Bridge cameras, see Choosing a Camera here. Wide Angle Lens (18-55mm kit lenses are fine). Tripod. Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (any version suitable).

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course you will be able to understand and use all the the extra modes and buttons on your camera while also being able to take better shots, even in dark, tricky situations like night time and low light.

Course Presenter
The course presenter for this course is fine art photographer, Dave McKane. Dave graduated from the 3 Year Photography Course in Colaiste Dhulaigh, Dublin in 1985, and has over 30 years experience in creative photography. He got his first film SLR in 1982, owned multiple darkrooms, was an early adoption of a scanner (1989), Photoshop (1993), his first digital camera (2002) and Lightroom (2007), he has vast experience in the field of using photography as a creative expressive medium and has held multiple exhibitions of his own photography, mainly in the United States.
